It is never hard for me to come up with ten homes for this list. The harder part can be narrowing it down to ten. We have such charming and unique homes here on the island. It is such an honor to visit and connect clients to them over the course of the year. Let’s jump right in and take a tour.

For #10 we start in the popular Rolling Bay Neighborhood. I am such a huge fan of the Rolling Bay hub and neighborhood. Living walkable to Bay Hay and Feed and Via Rosa 11 is such a treat in-and-of itself. This picture-perfect cottage is so adorable and is situated next to a line of other adorable cottages. When you approach this home you are greeted by a charming covered front porch where you can soak in the sun and wave to neighbors walking by on their way down to the beach. Inside, you are greeted by a true river rock fireplace and there is another river rock fireplace in the family room too. This home has so many elements I truly love: car-decking ceilings, wide plank flooring and warm wood trim. This was a fun one to see last year just as the selling season warmed up.

For #9 we head down to the south end to visit Beck Road. These sellers loved their home. Oh my, you could just tell. The amount of care and thought that went into the updates and addition of this house was so impressive. The changes that were made kept the charm in place and it was clear the owners worked with the site to make sure they let the light in. This home has a lot of wood and maybe that is not for everyone, but the execution was so well done and the house is just . . . so soulful. All of the eaves/angles were maximized for living spaces and were fun to discover as I toured the home. The home itself is a gem, but it is also walking distance to Lytle Beach, one of the sunniest, sandiest spots on the island. We don’t get to see these inside these historic homes everyday.

For #8 we head up to Springridge Road in Fletcher Bay to the house on the hill. The house really makes a statement as you approach the property as it really is up on the hill. It was clearly sited to take advantage of light and overlook the cleared area on the property and the pond. We don’t have a lot of log homes on the island and this is one of the larger log homes I have seen here. Many of them are petite cabins versus a home you could live in full-time. The wrap around porch and deck add a tremendous amount of living space to the home and are great places to take in the surrounding vistas. Inside, this home has vaulted spaces and skylights and of course the wood logs convey a solid and impressive feeling. My buyers purchased this home and I know they have some exciting plans to make it their own. I look forward to seeing the updates and personalization they do on this special property.

For #7 we head south again to Briar Rose Lane. This little lane is one of my favorite spots on the island. As far as location goes, it is right next door to HeyDay Farm. How could you ask for a better neighbor? Live in the country and be able to walk to dinner at one of THE best restaurants on the island. . . okay. Twist my arm. Plus there are trails right outside your door. The property itself has a main home and a colorful red garage with an apartment upstairs and sits on a lovely, sunny acre of land – with a fenced garden and extensive mature landscaping. All a gardener’s dream. One of the reasons I love it. The home has a covered front porch, and an expansive deck too. The apartment also has its own private deck that overlooks the property. Inside, I really loved the wide-planked wood floors and the thoughtful remodel the sellers did in the primary bathroom and the apartment over the garage. A really fun and cheerful package in the Eagledale Area.

For #6 we move north to North Madison Avenue. If you have read some of my other lists you know I love properties with multiple buildings. Here is a really great example. This large property has three buildings: a main home, Studio+ADU and the Solar Shed. And I really love a flat property where you can garden and have animals. And there is even a pond here, another added visual bonus. One of our talented designers on the island had lived here years ago and implemented a lot of the changes that are in place today. I could see her touches throughout. I love how the kitchen is perched above the great room and overlooks the property. I also love the timeless and tasteful finishes that were chosen. I never knew this home was tucked down this private lane. It was fun to discover this one.

For #5 we move further north to Henderson Road. This is a home I have spent a lot of time in over the years. It has been on the market a few times. One of my clients almost bought it years ago and we spent a lot of time in it before they opted for another, larger home down the street. The word Storybook was made for this home. The rounded doorways, extensive white wood moulding, box beam ceilings and beyond-charming cabinets are just some of the features that make this home so special. Oh, and the sunroom on the western side of the house. I could spend all day there. This is an entire package. It almost gets better as you go outside. First of all there are captivating western Olympic Mountain and water views from the home and the property. Then, the grounds are mature and magnificently landscaped. Plus there is an artful pond and water feature/fountain, and a garden studio with an attached greenhouse. It is no surprise that this home only saw five days on the market before finding a buyer.

For #4 we go south again to Island Avenue. If you read my lists you will see that this home was actually on my very first list back in 2008! Oh my. And I will say that it is a home I have thought about often since 2008 so it was really fun to revisit it again this year after all that time. I just love the whimsical style of the home itself and the jaw-dropping views of Mt. Rainier from this property. In 2024, the highlights of this home for me were the primary suite that has the primo views and the fancy dog shower in the mud room. So many of the finishes, including the kitchen, really stood the test of time because they truly are solid and classic.

For #3 we stay south and move over to the east side to Welfare Avenue. This was a home I had driven by and always wondered about. It tugs at my heartstrings for many reasons -the quaint multiple buildings, the interesting golden paint color of the buildings and the western sloping property full of terraces and garden vignettes. This is truly one of the most unique properties I have seen here on the island. I literally said “wow” 14 times when I toured this home. And it was one of those homes you really just did not want to leave. From the custom made cabinetry in the true chef’s kitchen to the darling guest house with a watchtower (yes!) to the magnificent fenced garden space. There was so much goodness to take in. The long-time owners poured their hearts and souls into this one. It was oh so evident and such fun to tour in person.

For the #2 position we head to the top of the island at Dolphin Drive. This is another one I had driven by for years and years. It sits on a prominent corner and the seller had sheep on the large flat property for years. You could not help but look over and smile when you drove by. And the house. Well, the house looks like it came straight from England. And that was by design. The seller, who happens to be my client, designed it that way. It was indeed her passion project. The timber frame construction, the smooth stucco exterior, the storybook windows, the handmade cabinetry, and the stone-wall courtyard garden were all very much by thoughtful, intentional design. She loved it. I love it. And I hope the new owners are loving it too.

For the #1 spot this year we go to the extreme south end at Crystal Springs Drive. This is such a rare package on the island. I am thrilled this property has stayed so large and whole for so many years. A 1900 historic home sits on 1.77 acres with 250 feet of waterfront. So rare. And the house is a timepiece. The covered front porch is one of the best “rooms” in the house. Much of the historic charm of the house has been kept in place, which was a delight to see. Often times I love a living room or a kitchen the most, but honestly the upstairs bedrooms felt so original and authentic and just sweet, they were really touching to see in person. Like a good book, I thought about his home a lot after seeing it and have faith that it is still in good hands today.
One of my favorite traditions is making this list every year. My lists are a good way to get a feel for our island, its homes, and me. If you want to take a closer look at all of my top ten lists in one place, visit here.
I am already curating my list for 2025. Cheers to a good one!
