Yes, back in November, our family had a nice afternoon at IslandWood on their first Afternoon on the Trails Day. We were free to roam, explore and volunteers were out and about to answer questions and chat about the property. It was a rare treat to be able hike around without a guide, but I was very surprised at how few people took advantage of it. After the fact, many friends and islanders said they did not even know about it, so alas, I am helping spread the word.
Do take advantage of it! I know may islanders have never even been to the property. Locals, you are missing out on this amazing “school in the woods.” Take a picnic lunch, climb the canopy tower, trek across the suspension bridge and explore the adjacent cemetery. I know our family has more of the 255 acre outdoor learning center to cover, so we plan to be there again ( I am hoping for warmer temperatures next weekend – like over 40 degrees, please). Hope to see you there.
